Seeking Him Diligently

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6

This scripture tells us there is a reward for those who diligently seek him. I believe God wants to be found and reveal himself to all who will seek him, but there is an extra reward for those who seek him with diligence.

I looked up the definition of diligent, it means - steadfast in application, industrious, attentive to duties, persistent effort or work.

To seek God with diligence means you must be intentional in what you do. A haphazard approach will not work and reap the reward that is available.

David wrote in Psm.27:4 ‘One thing I ask of the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.’  David had determined clear priorities; we must choose to do the same. To make our relationship with God our first priority and then let this decision influence all that we do each day. It will mean putting work and effort in and doing it steadfastly.

Our time with the Lord and in his word should be planned, this might mean putting the alarm clock on and getting up a little earlier to ensure that we meet with God every day, in a place where we are focused and free from distractions.

It means searching through the scriptures, looking for examples, listening to what the Holy Spirit is saying to us as we read. Memorizing verses, Psm.119:11’ I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.’

Journal what God is saying to you as you read and listen to him. Journalling is important as we can forget what God has said to us. By writing it down you will be able to go back and read it again to be encouraged and to check that you are carrying out, being obedient to all that He has spoken to you. In this way we steward his word better, demonstrating that we can be trusted and show that we take what God speaks to us is important. If we do this, He will be able to reveal even more to us. We also need to review how we are doing with the plan we have put in place, is it working? Is there something I’m not doing, do I need to change anything, is God asking me to do something else?

Our reward is Him, a deeper more intimate relationship with our loving Heavenly Father, what joy, what fulfillment and sense of purpose, significance and identity are available to us if we will seek Him diligently. This reward is not only just for us but also for those around us, as the more of God we have in each of us the more the overflow out of our lives. Also, as we live a life of diligence we are setting patterns for success for those coming after us.
