Kingdom People: Pray, Go

We turn on the news today and see chaos and disruption, but in these times, God looks for a church who will pursue Him whole heartedly despite the noise around us. Not many people may have heard of Wolverhampton, but God wants to partner with us to bring His kingdom purposes here on earth. You can be part of that, and the way in which we do it is to ‘pray and then go.’

It’s time to put legs on our prayers.

We pray, we go. We pray, we go.

Do you realise that sometimes, you are the answer to your own prayers?

1 Peter 2:9, our theme for the year, reminds us, ‘But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.’

We go in this identity, as called out people who proclaim the praises of God to those around us. We burn brightly with the light of Christ so that the darkness around us flees in Jesus’ name.

The 6th June 1944 was a remarkable day in history. Thousands of battleships landed on the beach in Normandy to reclaim territory for the allies, which eventually led to pushing back the enemy in Europe. However, before they were able to achieve this, the RAF (Royal Air Force) had won a huge battle in the air for air superiority. If they hadn’t have won the battle in the air, they wouldn’t have won the battle on land.

The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6 that our battle is against spiritual forces in the heavenly realms. When we pray, we become a spiritual air force winning the battle in the air and shifting things in the heavenly realms, which then impacts the battle on the ground. We become the RPAF (Royal Priestly Air Force) when we pray and then see a shift in our workplaces, schools and communities. There are cities on the ground to be saved and nations that are waiting for us to go in the name of Christ.

Just like soldiers, we are called spiritually to be radical, hardcore, and an airborne division who are dropped behind enemy lines into the darkest places of society and the world to shine the light of Christ.

We pray, and then we go in the power of the Holy Spirit, just like Jesus did (Luke 4:14). We fulfil Jesus’ mission to proclaim good news to the poor, sight to the blind, freedom for the prisoners, and set the oppressed free (Luke 4:18-19).  

I believe that God wants to pour His Spirit out on us again today so that when we pray and we go, we see the Kingdom of God breaking out all around us.

‘Holy Spirit, we ask you to come and fill us afresh today in Jesus’ name. Lord, we don't want to settle for what we had before. You've led us into this place of prayer and fasting. Would you bring us out in the power of the Holy Spirit right now. Fill us afresh right now in Jesus’ name.’
