Kingdom People: Faithfulness in every season

Can you think of a time when you have had to make an important decision between two things? Not simply which coffee to choose or which colour to paint your living room, but a decision that will affect your direction in life.

God’s purposes are progressively revealed and gradually released as we are faithful in every season and stage. Faithful in decisions, and faithful in difficulties.

In Genesis 12:7-8, Abram built an altar to the Lord between 2 places; Bethel and Ai. Bethel represented ‘the house of God’ and Ai was a place of ruin. As humans, we can sometimes find ourselves in that place- torn between two realities, with the choice of which direction to build in.

The amazing truth is that we can align ourselves according to the Spirit and not the flesh (Romans 8:1).

When God awakens something in us, we can perpetuate it. We can steward it well with the help of the Holy Spirit.

We believe and then we behave.

‍Our hearts impact our actions.

Our patterns reveal our priorities.

So, what patterns are you building in your life?

In Philippians 3:12, Paul says, ‘I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.’ We can be faithful to God by holding onto Him and going further and deeper with Him.

Worship is key- even when we don’t feel like it, and some things will not materialise if we do not pray.

As well as worship and prayer, there are 3 key encouragements for us, from 1 Timothy 4:7-17:

1) Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.

2) Devote yourself to Scripture.

3) Don’t neglect the spiritual gifts in you. Build an altar, a pattern, repeat it over and over.

A deeper place comes with a greater price. God is inviting us to go deeper, and His purposes are revealed as we become increasingly faithful.

How will you develop a pattern that expresses your priorities and takes you into a deeper well?

Once again, God’s purposes are progressively revealed and gradually released as we are faithful in every season and stage.

Father God, help us to be faithful to you in every season. As we make decisions and build our own altars this week, please guide us by your Spirit. Give us wisdom and confidence, and may you reveal to us clearly your plans and purposes, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection questions:

- What are some decisions you need to make right now?

- How will you be faithful to God in them?

- Who will you share this with as an encouragement?
