Kingdom People: A Divine Exchange
What is the most important event in your life? Aside from the day you were born, perhaps it is the day you graduated, your wedding anniversary or the day that your child was born.
The death and resurrection of Jesus is the most important event in the history of the world because it changes our life now and it changes our life eternally.
Christ died for our sins, taking our place as a spotless sacrifice. He was killed, buried and then brought back to life so that we could be reconciled to the Father, having everlasting hope and joy in Jesus. Paul writes this so simply and yet so powerfully in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, reminding us that when we believe in this gospel- Good News- we are saved.
There is nothing and no one greater that can offer us this resurrection hope- no person, no job, no car or material thing- than Jesus (John 3:16).
A divine exchange takes place when we put our faith in Jesus and receive what only He can give us:
1) A new life. Christ in you, the hope of glory! (Colossians 1:27. Not just a fresh start but a completely new life, with no condemnation (Romans 8:1-4, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21).
2) A new relationship. Adopted into God’s family, to know Him eternally (Romans 8:15, John 17:3). An intimacy and closeness with God where He lavishes His love on us (1 John 3:1) and we can approach His throne with confidence (Hebrews 4:16).
3) A new mission. Expanding God’s Kingdom on earth. We become ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:16-20), representing God to the world so that all people will be reconciled to the Father. We are part of something bigger that gives us incredible purpose every day. We desire all people to praise God (Psalm 67), believing that as we share and baptise disciples, Jesus is with us to the end of the age (Matthew 28:18-20).
So, what are your next steps?
1) Build the relationship - Grow in the knowledge of God through prayer, reading the Bible and fellowship with other believers.
2) Grow in intimacy - Abide, having union with Christ. Hide His Word in your heart and meditate on it day and night.
3) Obey His commands - Align with a flourishing life. Put into practice what you read in the Word.
4) Share His life with others - Expand the family of God through sharing the Good News and your testimony with others.
This gospel is for everyone, everywhere, and we join in with heaven praising Jesus, saying, ‘Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!’
Father God, we thank you for sending Jesus to die in our place and raising Him up again. Thank you for this divine exchange, a new identity in Christ and that we can know You forever. We receive your new life today, and ask that you would empower us by your Spirit to share this new life with others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
